women's day 2017

Women's Day is an annual fundraising activity under the Women's Ministry.  Proceeds received from the fundraiser go to a church project.

This year's theme was "Expecting Greatness Part 2."  Sister Melanie Graham is the 2017  Women's Day Chairwoman.

Pearl Burris-Floyd was the guest speaker.

The Honorable Reverend Pearl Burris-Floyd

 

     The Honorable Reverend Pearl Burris-Floyd is the only daughter of the late Deacon James C. Burris, Sr. and the late Deaconess Ola Mae Wilson Burris. She is a native North Carolinian and a product of Gaston County’s public schools. Pearl graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in Biology and she also earned a Masters degree in Health Administration from Pfeiffer University. She is a fall 2012 Graduate Fellow of the Institute of Political Leadership. She accepted God’s call to minister to his people and is a licensed and ordained reverend of the Gospel.

     A recognized community leader, Rev. Pearl has used her God given talent, skill, compassion and intellect to represent her community and the great state of North Carolina. Former Representative Burris-Floyd is also a former Gaston County Commissioner from 2001-2008, Commission Vice-Chair 2006-2008 and Representative in the North Carolina General Assembly 2009-2010.  She continues to serve Gaston County as a member of the CaroMont Healthcare Board of Directors. God has blessed her to have a successful 34-year medical career as a Cancer Detection Specialist and laboratory administrator. She is also a Christian, Gospel Preacher, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, caregiver, servant leader and friend.  Rev. Burris-Floyd served as Co-Chair of the Transition Team of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services for Gov. Pat McCrory and was appointed to the State Board of Directors for the Partnership for Children by Gov. Beverly Perdue and Gov. Pat McCrory.   She is a member of the UNC Board of Governors and provides governance for the 17 university system. She worked as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Health and Human Services in Raleigh, N.C., as the Vice President of Governmental Affairs for the Greensboro Partnership, Greensboro, N.C., and Chief Operations and Financial Officer for the Gaston Regional Chamber of Commerce. She is currently the President and CEO of Hidden Gemstones Consulting, LLC and Founder of PBF Ministries.

     Rev. Pearl is an active member of the First Baptist Church in Dallas, NC, where she is a: Sunday School teacher of 16 years, former editor of the church newsletter, past President of the Pastor’s Aide, and past President of the Gospel Choir. She is currently serving as an Associate Minister, Chair of the Board of Trustees, and sings on both the hymn and mass choirs.

     What is most important that you know about her is that she is a child of God who is not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Her favorite scripture is Psalm 34:1 “I will bless the Lord at all times: His praise shall continually be in my mouth”
